Deborah Jeanne (Miller) Wood.
Circa 1977, which happens to be the year she graduated from Wellsboro High School.
Beautiful, isn't she?
An absolutely glowing bride.
Smiling. Happy. Looking forward to spending the future with her loving husband, Dan.
You certainly can tell she's a part of the Johnson family. Almost all of us have that pointy chin that juts out of our face like the prow on a boat.
Her dress is gorgeous, isn't it? Lovely pattern. Bottom ruffle following the days fashion. Yellow ribbon. Yellow roses.
She looks like a model for a Moet y Chandon advertisement, doesn't she?
Here is another from that very same day.
The whole bridal party. Sue and Dan's brother Al.
Dan's nickname was "Dinky". I can't for the life of me remember why. He's certainly taller than his brother. Perhaps it was because he IS so tall.
If anyone knows, please, clear that up for this poor, tired brain. Thank you in advance.
What do you think of this image?
Our mother (Gail), Debbie, Dan.
Do those smiles look a bit forced?
Ya. We girls fought a lot with each other. ALL of us. Aunties, Grandmas, Cousins. ALL of us.
Mostly over petty bullcrap that would roll off our backs these days.
Mom looks a little heavy in this picture. All of us girls have had weight problems in the past. Usually, eating is a "comfort" for us. We turn to it when we're sad or lonely or tired or bored or angry or ... We're all pretty much OCD in one way or another.
Note the chins. lol
Our grandmother, Evelyn Henrietta (Poppleton) Johnson, with Debbie and Dan.
Poor Gran looks like she's been crying. Ah, gee. Lots of folks get weepy during weddings. It's an emotional time. That kind of positive/negative energy can be catching though.
Growing up. Letting go. Well, growing up anyway.
Gran and Debbie had a love/hate relationship stemming from childhood grievances that were never fully resolved (much like myself and mom). They were both very stubborn.
Later on in life they got along better. Don't get me wrong - they always loved each other. That's what you do when you're part of a family. You love each other through thick and thin. imho.
Last picture for this post.
Bummie, whose given name was Florence Marie Berchtold - Poppleton by marriage, poses with Debbie and Dan.
Look at Debbie's face. Now, there's a genuine smile for you. She loved her Bummie.
Bummie took her in when Gran decided she couldn't handle both of us children at the same time. (We were "bad" when we got together... like the time we put fish sticks in condoms and laid them in the fridge to use as a practical joke and Gran 'discovered' them before they made it to the joke.)
Anyway, Bummie took Debbie in for a couple years. But Bummie was old and set in her ways and simply couldn't keep up with Debbie. She tried though and Debbie was always welcomed with a smile, a hug and an open door.
Lots of love right there.
